For over five decades, Gil Zeimer has pursued a life shaped by three enduring passions: writing, travel, and scuba diving. With 50 years as an advertising writer, 40 as a scuba diver, and 30 as a travel writer, it was only natural that these worlds would eventually intersect.
After publishing a first scuba diving article, Gil Zeimer quickly discovered that years of copywriting experience translated beautifully into the world of storytelling—crafting compelling headlines, strong openings, and engaging narratives designed to entertain and inform. Rather than simply calling himself a “writer,” Gil Zeimer prefers the term “storyteller.”
To date, Gil Zeimer has authored over 300 articles, blogs, websites, and newsletters for a wide range of magazines and travel platforms. His topics have spanned scuba diving from cruise ships, snorkeling and diving at the world’s most sustainable resorts, and land-based adventures like a two-week journey through Spain’s vibrant cities and charming villages.
His first book—Scuba Storyteller: Mostly Humorous Diving Tales by an Addicted AquaNut—is set to launch in mid-October, featuring more than 60 curated articles from his expansive writing archive.
A third-generation San Franciscan, Gil Zeimer is now retired from advertising but continues to travel regularly with his wife. Together, they’ve explored destinations by sea on lines such as Silversea to Alaska, Crystal from Rome to Venice, and Azamara from Barcelona to Bordeaux—the latter offering a luxury-like experience without the steep price tag.
