Attorney Group Defends Trump’s Accusations of Obama of Wiretapping

“President Trump’s tweets were 100% right.  Trump Tower was wiretapped,” says Washington D.C Law Professor Victor Williams:

“21st Century “wiretapping” includes every imaginable surveillance technology, process, and program.”

“Forget the air-quotes — the Obama administration wiretapped Donald Trump and Team Trump,” says Williams.

“It is Obama’s Watergate but it is far worse than Watergate.”

Prof. Williams lists four truths about “Obama’s Watergate”:

First, the leaked intel (with actual transcripts) prove that surveillance and illegal dispersal happened.  It is proof beyond a shadow of a doubt.”

Second, Obama officials acquired intel, unmasked identities, and illegally leaked classified intel that had been collected with FISA warrants.”

Third, after the election, Obama changed the rules of Executive Order 12333 to grant anti-Trump bureaucrats, in 16 additional federal agencies, unprecedented access to more raw NSA intel to leak.

Fourth, the leaked intel revealed no wrongdoing by Donald Trump. No Trump wrongdoing whatsoever — none, nada, zip.”

No, Obama did not personally flip on a surveillance switch at Trump Tower.  Obama did not need to do so.  21st Century wiretapping-surveillance is never turned off.

Without FISA warrant requirements, NSA universally collects and records communications of every type (actual content and aggregated meta-data).

All Obama had to do was to give anti-Trump bureaucrats a green light to root through classified intel and leak.

As the New York Times reported, Obama switched on that green light after the November election.

Obama altered Executive Order 12333 to give bureaucrats in 16 additional agencies unprecedented access to raw NSA intel – to leak.

The New York Times explained:

“The new rules significantly relax longstanding limits….These include collecting satellite transmissions, phone calls and emails that cross network switches abroad, and messages between people abroad that cross domestic network switches. The change means that far more officials will be searching through raw data.”

And the NYT detailed:

“Previously, the N.S.A. filtered information before sharing intercepted communications with another agency…The N.S.A.’s analysts passed on only information they deemed pertinent, screening out the identities of innocent people and irrelevant personal information.  Now, other intelligence agencies will be able to search directly through raw repositories of communications intercepted by the N.S.A.”

Now Professor Williams, who chairs America First Lawyers Association, argues:

“The Justice Department must root out every Obama official who culled through the classified intel and illegally leaked that intel.  And the so-called ‘Trump derangement syndrome’ will not be a credible defense in the resulting felony prosecutions.”

Prof. Williams again describes the surveillance scandal as “Obama’s Watergate but far worse than Watergate.”

Richard Nixon focused his spying primarily on political opponents. With the changes to Executive Order 12333, Obama exposed the private, innocent communications of every American citizen to unprecedented bureaucratic inspection.”

As the ACLU stated when Obama altered Executive Order 12333:

“Seventeen different government agencies shouldn’t be rooting through Americans’ emails with family members, friends and colleagues, all without ever obtaining a warrant.”

Prof. Williams also emphasizes:

Barack Obama will be long-remembered for this scandal and for irresponsibly exposing and disseminating classified information.”

“NSA surveillance is legal and NSA agents and other brave intelligence agents are doing important work in the war on terror.

Obama’s Watergate makes the NSA’s job much more difficult.”

During the 2016 election, Prof. Victor Williams founded Lawyers & Law Professors for Trump, now rebranded as America First Lawyers Association as an advocacy platform to advance Trump’s “America first” mission.
