They discussed a listener’s fundamental question: what are the biggest barriers to better communication? The biggest one: assuming we “communicated” something just because we talked. Most leaders only think in terms of what they want to say, not what the listener needs to hear in order to grasp both the message content and the intent. She illustrates how it’s like starting a road trip without entering the destination in the GPS: in the end neither of you likes where you end up. Dr. Sicola explains how to set that destination using what she calls the three levels of impact, then how to calculate the route using the four essential questions you must ask yourself before planning any presentation, explanation, pitch or argument.
