As the devastating flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Harvey continues along the Texas coast and parts of Central Texas, the Texas Hospital Association has established an assistance fund to help Texas hospital employees recover. The THA Hospital Employee Assistance Fund supports hospital employees in one of 29 Federal Emergency Management Agency-disaster areas and who have experienced property loss or damage.
“We know the economic losses from Harvey will be as record breaking as the rainfall amounts,” said Ted Shaw, THA president/CEO. “Many of our hospitals’ employees have been working around the clock since the storm hit and haven’t even had a chance to survey the damage in their own homes and neighborhoods.”
The fund currently is accepting tax-deductible donations through the website www.tha.org/Harvey. THA is working with affected hospitals to distribute information on eligibility and requests for assistance.
“We have a responsibility to care for the caregivers,” said Shaw. “Texas hospital employees help the sick, elderly and vulnerable every single day, and when they need care and help in turn, we have an obligation to step up. THA is proud to help our members in this capacity.”
