Pros and Cons of iPhones

Reading Time: 4 minutes

According to the Pew Research Center, almost 100% of Americans own a cell phone. Of these people, more than 80% own a smartphone.

If you’re in the market for a smartphone right now, an Apple iPhone is one of the smartphones that you’re going to want to consider. Since the first iPhone was introduced way back in 2007, Apple has cornered the smartphone market with it. It owns a market share that sits somewhere between the 40 and 50% mark.

Before investing in an iPhone, though, you should take the time to learn about the iPhone pros and cons. It’ll help you decide if an iPhone is a better option for you than an Android phone.

So, what are the iPhone advantages versus the iPhone disadvantages? Let’s take a few minutes to talk about them below.

Pro: It Has an Awesome Display

One of the first things that you’re going to notice when you pick up a new iPhone is the incredible display on it. The new iPhone 12, for example, has a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2,532 x 1,170 pixels.

This makes an iPhone perfect for anyone who likes to spend time on their phone watching videos and playing games. It also makes it ideal for those who enjoy taking photos and videos with their smartphones.

Additionally, Apple has worked hard in recent years to eliminate home buttons from the front of their iPhones to increase the size of their screens. It has made a huge difference in how great the displays on the modern-day iPhones look.

Con: It Has a Screen That’s Not Always Easy to Replace

If you ever drop your iPhone and crack the screen on it, you’re going to find that you’ll have to jump through hoops to get it fixed. Apple has seemingly made it impossible for the average Joe to replace the screen on their iPhone easily.

You’re also not going to want to continue to use an iPhone when it has a cracked screen since it’ll stop you from enjoying the excellent display on it. It’ll leave you no choice but to run out and spend a fortune to have a professional fix your cracked screen for you.

Pro: It Has State-of-the-Art Cameras

When people are considering the iPhone pros and cons, they’ll often skip right to the section about the cameras on iPhones since they’re very important to them. People are using their smartphones to take photos more than ever these days, which is why they care so much about the cameras in them.

You’ll be happy to know that you can’t go wrong with the cameras found in the latest iPhones. The iPhone 12 features two cameras—a front-facing camera and a rear-facing one—that are both 12-megapixel cameras. They’re also both capable of capturing 4K video.

The storage on iPhones has also increased over the years with Apple now offering 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options. This will give you plenty of space for all the photos and videos that you take with an iPhone.

Con: It Has Cameras That Sometimes Lack the Features of Android Cameras

While the cameras found in iPhones aren’t anything to scoff at, you should know that they don’t always include all of the cool features found in Android cameras. They also don’t provide you with as many megapixels as Android cameras do.

You’re still going to get crystal-clear photos and videos from iPhones that will work just fine for your intended purposes. But if you’re someone who is super serious about photography or videography, you can find better camera options out there when you shop around for Android phones.

Pro: It Has Come Down in Price in Recent Years

A few years ago, it looked as though the $1,000 price tags that were popping up on iPhones were going to become the norm. It seemed as though it was only a matter of time before every iPhone was going to cost over a thousand dollars.

But Apple has (thankfully!) toned down the prices on their newest iPhones with the iPhone 12 starting at just a shade over $800 and the iPhone 12 Mini selling for a full $100 less than that. It has made the iPhone a little bit more affordable for those investing in one.

Con: It Has a Price Tag That’s Still Too High for Some People

Although people don’t have to pay $1,000 to get their hands on an iPhone in 2020 if they don’t want to, there are still some iPhones that are well out of most people’s price range. This has made it hard for them to afford an iPhone in this day and age.

The iPhone 12 Pro, for instance, still starts at just under $1,000 for the base model and can cost almost $1,300 if you opt for one with 512GB of memory. And don’t even get us started on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is even more expensive than that!

If you’re trying to find a phone on a tight budget, the iPhone is probably not going to be your best bet. You can find lots of solid Android phones that are available for just a fraction of what an iPhone will cost you.
